Day 21 - STUN

stun - vb

I was stunned to see this old-fashioned butter churn.
So much so, I bought it on the spot! Whoopee!

Day 20 - PAINTED

Painted - adjective

1.Represented in paint.
2.Covered or decorated with paint.
3.Excessively made up with cosmetics.

I cheated, today, because I found perfect representations in my files for all three definitions. Forgive me!Painting faces will either share the inner soul of a person or hide it. You want to meet this lady and hear her stories; you're not sure if RM is a person who truly loves children or someone just doing a job -- or, horrors of horrors, another William Gacy! Makeup can become a crutch to protect unresolved conflicts, as well. Tammy Faye Bakker found that she couldn't live a life without the painted face she had created early in her career.

Day 19 - CONSISTENCY

Consistency - noun

1. a. Agreement or logical coherence among things or parts: a rambling argument that lacked any consistency.

    b. Correspondence among related aspects; compatibility: questioned the consistency of the administration's actions with its stated policy.

2. Reliability or uniformity of successive results or events: pitched with remarkable consistency throughout the season.

3. Degree of density, firmness, or viscosity: beat the mixture to the consistency of soft butter.

Bowling is a sport that requires consistency with each ball release
to increase reliability for the team and insure a successful season.

Day 18 - NATURAL

Natural - noun

1: based on an inherent sense of right and wrong <natural justice>

2 a : being in accordance with or determined by nature

   b : having or constituting a classification based on features existing in nature

3 a (1) : begotten as distinguished from adopted; also : legitimate

      (2) : being a relation by actual consanguinity as distinguished from adoption <natural parents>

Watching the Hurricanes in flight over the ice shows everyone
that they are all natural athletes.

Day 17 - FIVE

Five noun.

The cardinal number equal to 4 + 1.
The fifth in a set or sequence.

Five beginnings to feed my family this summer.

 Five ways to discover fresh vegetables for your family.

Five inexpensive containers makes it easy for everyone!

 

Day 16 - FLUID

Fluid noun.
A continuous, amorphous substance whose molecules move freely past one another and that has the tendency to assume the shape of its container; a liquid or gas

Fresh well water, a fluid kept cool by its own metamorphosis into a solid, is not only refreshing, it's the most essential fluid we have on earth.

Day 15 - SOUTH

South noun.
1.The direction along a meridian 90° clockwise from east; the direction to the right of sunrise.
2.The cardinal point on the mariner's compass 180° clockwise from due north and directly opposite north.
3.An area or region lying in the south

I'm facing North atop a mountain in Floyd VA;

to the SOUTH is North Carolina and beyond!

Day 14 - BLANKET

Blanket noun.

1.A large piece of woven material used as a covering
for warmth, especially on a bed.
2.A layer that covers or encloses

It's the middle of winter and my Angel needs her blanket to keep warm.

Day 13 - RUSTY

Rusty - adjective
1. Covered with rust; corroded.

An old plowshare has done its duty and is now enjoying a second lease on life as a yard ornament. 

Day 12 - PAIR

Pair - noun
1. Two corresponding persons or items, similar in form or function and matched or associated.

Two by two by two is how we start the day...

With two sinks, two cups, two cloths; two of everything.

Day 11 - UNDERNEATH

Underneath - noun

  The part or side below or under. Adjective: lower; under.

They stand, underneath the top floor, waiting to be called to do their part.

Day 10 - NOTE

Note - noun
1. A brief record, especially one written down to aid the memory; took notes in class.
2. A brief informal letter.

Each year, family members attending the Homecoming write down names of those they remember in the old family albums so that new generations can follow the family lines.

Day 9 - FENCE

Fence - noun

1. A structure serving as an enclosure, a barrier, or a boundary, usually made of posts or stakes joined together by boards, wire, or rails.

Because I have a pool in the backyard, we're required to build a six-foot privacy fence

 to hide the "attractive nuisance."

Day 8 - CROSS

Cross - noun
1. An upright post with a transverse piece near the top, on which condemned persons were executed in ancient times; often, upon which Jesus was crucified.
2. A cruficix.
3. Any of various modofications of the cross design, such as a Latin cross or Maltese cross.
4. A medal, emblem, or insignia in the form of a cross.

I do Ukrainian eggs. A special request was made by a daughter to do an egg depicting Rafael's Madonna & Child for her mother and yet keep the 'flavor' of the pysanky symmetry, using the hot wax and dye procedure. The reverse of this egg is that painting, but I needed something for the back side, and did this Russian Cross.

Day 7 - KITCHEN

Kitchen - noun

1. A room or an area equipped for preparing and cooking food.
2. A style of cooking; cuisine: a restaurant with a fine French kitchen.
3. A staff that prepares, cooks, and serves food.

While ordinary to most of you, this was the renovated kitchen my deal SIL done just five months before she passed away! She had waited 60 years for the renovation and dearly loved the change.

Day 6 - COW

Cow - noun
1.The mature female of cattle of the genus Bos.
2.The mature female of other large animals, such as whales, elephants, or moose.
3.A domesticated bovine of either sex or any age.

Day 5 - MAINSTREAM

Mainstream - noun

  The prevailing currrent of thought, influence, or activity.

Okay. I couldn't resist. But, the prevailing thought of the mainstream is ways of reducing fossil fuel usage and saving energy. Made perfect sense to me to include my blog on Solar Cooking for Mainstream Cooks! I promise I won't do it, again...

Day 4 - CRYSTAL

Crystal - noun.

1.A homogenous solid formed by a repeating, three-dimensional pattern of atoms, ions, or molecules and having fixed distances between constituent parts.
2.The unit cell of such a pattern.
2.A mineral, especially a transparent form of quartz, having a crystalline structure, often characterized by external planar faces. 

 A crystal chandelier sparkling in the light and crystal glasses being readied for sparkling wine.

Looking forward to an elegant evening.

Day 3 - CURVE

Curve - noun.

   A line that deviates from straightness in a smooth, continuous fashion.
   A surface that deviates from planarity in a smooth, continuous fashion.
   Something characterized by such a line or surface, especially a rounded line or contour of the human body.

I love the way a curve can soften a staircase or even the most austere room.

Day 2 - THOUSAND

Thousand -  noun.
   The cardinal number equal to 10 x 100  or 103.

I haven't counted them, but whether leaves on plants or dots on lounges, you'll find at least a thousand, here!

Day 1 - LIFE

 Life - noun
1.The property or quality that distinguishes living organisms from dead organisms and inanimate matter, manifested in functions such as metabolism, growth, reproduction, and response to stimuli or adaptation to the environment originating from within the organism.
2.The characteristic state or condition of a living organism.

To me, a young garden sprouting new sustaining life brings me comfort and the knowledge that my family will enjoy fresh vegetables during the coming year!

Just One Photo - One Day - One Word

Jen of Cabin Fever has thrown down the gauntlet for anyone interested in sharing her 365 Challenge for 2011. I'm going to try to do this because I think it will really help my photography work for my recipes. We'll just see. Each day, she will computer-generate a word to inspire our photos. She will definitely do it for 365 days. Me? We'll just see. I do enjoy photography and I do have to photograph cooking steps. Wish me luck!
